How the visit goes
- Inspect above ground firstThe backflow assembly and exposed risers take the worst of a freeze. We check them before turning anything on so a cracked body does not flood the yard.
- Find every failureOne freeze often breaks several things. We trace the mainline and laterals for splits and check unions and fittings so the repair is complete, not just the obvious part.
- Price it and get your okayYou get the full list with a price before we start. Freeze repairs vary a lot and you should know the number first.
- Replace and rebuildFailed parts are replaced with commercial-grade components sized to your system, glued and cured properly.
- Pressure test everythingWe bring the system up slowly and check every zone under pressure. Then we leave you a short written list of how to protect it before the next cold snap.
Burst Pipe and Freeze Damage Repair questions
What does freeze damage look like?
A backflow assembly with a visible crack, water spraying from a union, a mainline that runs constantly, or a zone that suddenly has no pressure. Sometimes it is just a soggy area near the backflow that will not dry out. If you saw ice on the pipes during the freeze, assume something needs a look.
How much does freeze repair cost?
It depends on what broke. A single cracked fitting can be around $400. A cracked backflow assembly plus a split mainline can reach $2,000 or more because those are the largest, most pressurized parts of the system. We inspect first and give you the full number before we start.
Should I turn the system on to check it?
Please do not. If the backflow or mainline is cracked, turning it on can dump a lot of water fast. Leave the water off at the shutoff and let us inspect it dry first.
Why did my system freeze when the neighbors' did not?
Exposure is most of it. A backflow assembly on the north side of the house with no cover, or shallow pipe in a spot that never gets sun, will freeze before one that is insulated or protected. We tell you what to change so it is less likely next time.
Can you repair during watering restrictions?
Emergency freeze repairs are typically allowed even when a city has watering restrictions, since we are testing a repair rather than watering the lawn. Rules vary by city, so check yours, and we keep test runs as short as possible.
Is the repair covered if it freezes again?
Our labor on the replaced parts is covered for 90 days. A future freeze that breaks the same part is a weather event, not a workmanship issue, so that is not covered, which is why we leave you winterization steps in writing.
