How the visit goes

  1. Photograph the wiringBefore we unplug anything we photograph the old controller's terminals so every zone lands on the right station on the new unit.
  2. Mount the new unitBasic Hunter X-Core and Rain Bird ESP-Me controllers and smart Rachio and Hydrawise units all mount in about the same spot. We use an outdoor enclosure where the old one was exposed.
  3. Reconnect and labelStation wires, common, transformer, and master valve if you have one all get reconnected and labeled so the next person can read it.
  4. Program the scheduleWe set run times by zone for the season and for the city's watering days, and set the rain or freeze sensor if one is installed.
  5. Show you the controlsTen minutes of walkthrough so you know how to pause it for rain, run a zone by hand, and adjust as the seasons change.

Sprinkler Controller Replacement questions

How much does a new sprinkler controller cost installed?

A basic controller runs $300 to $425 installed and programmed. A smart Wi-Fi controller runs $450 to $650. The difference is mostly the unit itself; Hunter X-Core and Rain Bird ESP-Me units cost $90 to $150, while Rachio 3 and Hydrawise run $150 to $280.

Is a smart controller worth it in North Texas?

For most yards here, yes. Smart controllers skip watering when rain is coming, adjust for the season on their own, and let you pause from your phone when the city calls a watering restriction. Over a summer that usually means a lower water bill and a healthier lawn.

Can you keep my existing schedule?

Yes. We note your current program before we start and set it up on the new unit, then suggest changes only if the old schedule was clearly over or under watering.

What if the new controller will not connect to Wi-Fi?

Smart controllers need a decent signal where they are mounted, and a garage wall can be a dead zone. We test the connection before we leave. If the problem is router placement in the house, that is outside the sprinkler system and we will tell you plainly.

Do I need a rain sensor?

It is a good idea and inexpensive. Many north Dallas suburbs expect one on newer systems. If you have one we wire it in; if you do not, we can add it while we are there.

Will you label the wires?

Yes. Every station gets labeled on the new controller and we leave a photo record. It saves the next repair, whether that is us or you.

Tell us what the sprinklers are doing.

A real person reads this and calls you back, usually the same day, to set a two-hour window. Or skip the form and call.
