Sprinkler Wire Trace and Repair

$145 first hour, then hourly plus parts

A typical wire repair lands between $250 and $500. Multi-break jobs across a yard are quoted on-site once we know how many faults there are.

When a zone is dead and the valve is fine, the problem is somewhere in a wire you cannot see. We trace it from the controller, find the break, and splice it right.

  • Controller and station tested with a multimeter
  • Wire path traced with a locator
  • Break located and exposed
  • Waterproof gel-filled splice connectors
  • Zone re-tested and wire reburied

Warranty: 90 days on our labor on the splice itself.

  • Upfront pricing
  • Written warranty
  • Photo of every fix
  • Fixed next day

How the visit goes

  1. Test at the controllerWe check voltage and continuity at the station terminals first. A bad station on the controller looks like a bad wire from the yard, and it is a cheaper fix.
  2. Trace the wireWith the controller ruled out we follow the wire with a locator from the controller toward the valve until the signal drops. That is where the break lives.
  3. Expose the breakMower blades, rodents, and old corroded splices are the usual causes. We open a small window over the break rather than digging the whole run.
  4. Splice it properlyEvery splice gets a waterproof gel-filled connector. Twisting wires together and burying them is why a lot of the breaks we find exist in the first place.
  5. Test and reburyThe zone runs from the controller, the wire goes back in the ground, and the turf goes back over it.

Sprinkler Wire Trace and Repair questions

How do I know it is a wire problem and not the valve?

If the zone will not run from the controller but runs when we open the valve by hand, the valve is fine and the signal is not reaching it. That points to the wire or the controller station, and we test both before digging.

How much does a sprinkler wire repair cost?

We bill $145 for the first hour, which covers the testing and tracing, then hourly plus parts. Most single-break jobs finish between $250 and $500. If there are several breaks we stop and give you a full quote before continuing.

Why does this take longer than other repairs?

The wire is buried and the break is invisible. Tracing is careful work, and a wire that has been chewed or nicked in two places doubles the hunt. We will tell you how it is going as we go.

What causes sprinkler wires to break here?

Edging and aerating catch shallow wires, gophers and other rodents chew them, and old splices that were never waterproofed corrode in wet clay. Shifting Blackland soil can also pull a marginal splice apart over the years.

Is the repair warrantied?

Our splice is covered for 90 days. The rest of the wire in the yard is the same age it was before, so we cannot cover breaks that show up elsewhere, but we will find them just as quickly.

Can you rewire the whole system?

Yes, if the wiring is failing in several places it can make more sense to run new wire than chase breaks. That is a separate, larger job and we scope and price it on its own.
